Americký startup Form Energy vybral Weirton v Západní Virginii jako místo, kde vyroste jejich první továrna na baterie železo-vzduch. Jsou založeny na cyklu rzi, v němž se kovové železo mění na oxid železa a naopak. Baterie by měly být levné, více než desetkrát méně nákladné než srovnatelné lithiové baterie.
